Coming to a latitude near you: The Aurora Borealis

Add ImageMuch guff was written/said in the UK media of late about coronaAdd Imagel ejections from our star - the sun (known as Sol to astronomers). In fact this is not new, there have been several events like this in the past decade (witness the image posted here from Hartland Point in Devon in 2003). One thing is true though, these coronal ejections are predicted to get stronger and possibly affect communications in years to come. Otherwise, nothing much happened last week and the Northern Lights were not visible to many due to our famously cloudy skies. The boffins reckon that due to this increase in solar activity, you will not need to visit the Faroe Isles much to see them in the coming years and they could become a feature of the night sky in many parts of the British Isles.
